Grade 12 in Eight Months: September to May OSSD Course Planning

A sample student at Sauder Academy: Grade 12 from September to the following May. This example illustrates an approximately eight-month course planning timeline and explains how to choose subjects for university goals.

Study time varies with individual credit assessments, prerequisites, course workload and applicable graduation requirements. September to the following May is approximately eight elapsed months.

University offers with entrance scholarships from all four universities

This student received admission offers from the following four Canadian universities. Each university also offered him an entrance scholarship at the time of admission:

  • University of Toronto
  • Western University
  • Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)
  • University of Ottawa

This is an individual student outcome. Admission and scholarship decisions are made by each university based on the applicant’s qualifications.

September to May: an eight-month planning example

Use the stages below as a course planning example and adapt them with the school to your own study schedule.

  1. September: assess credits and choose a pathway

Submit previous transcripts; confirm outstanding compulsory courses and other graduation requirements. List target universities, programmes, prerequisites and application deadlines.

  2. September–November: plan a first phase

Example: ENG4U, MDM4U and MHF4U. Reserve regular time for writing, mathematics practice and assessment preparation. Concurrent enrolment depends on prerequisites, available time and school assessment.

  3. December: review completed results

Courses: ENG4U, MDM4U and MHF4U. Check the next course prerequisites and university document deadlines. Applications may be due before final May results.

  4. January–April: plan the second phase

Example: BBB4M, HFA4U, SES4U and, where eligible, OLC4O. Allow time for research, projects, teacher feedback, revisions and final assessments. Confirm eligibility for the literacy course separately.

  5. May: final results and graduation review

Courses: BBB4M, HFA4U, SES4U and OLC4O. The school checks the complete record against credit, compulsory-course, literacy and other applicable requirements before final graduation documents are issued.

How to choose courses

  1. Start with two or three target degree programmes and check their current qualification, English-language, prerequisite and applicant-category requirements.
  2. Schedule required subjects first. This example includes ENG4U and two mathematics courses; it is not a universal package for engineering, science or health programmes.
  3. Choose remaining 4U/M courses according to interests, prior preparation, assessment formats and prerequisites. This example contains six: ENG4U, MDM4U, MHF4U, BBB4M, HFA4U and SES4U.
  4. Check literacy and diploma requirements separately. OLC4O is not a 4U/M course and cannot count as one of those six courses.
  5. Match workload to available time, especially alongside DSE preparation. Extend the schedule where necessary rather than rushing assessments.

This course combination is an example. Confirm individual prerequisites, programme requirements and graduation requirements with the school. See HKU’s official Ontario qualification requirements and Ontario’s official diploma requirements. Minimum admission requirements do not guarantee an offer.

Support and next steps

The current fee is CAD$3,000 per course, including a total of five hours of one-to-one live Zoom teaching. These hours are individual teaching support, not the total study time required for a course. Students must also complete course learning, assignments and assessments.

Contact the school through the website WhatsApp button or email with previous transcripts, target programmes and weekly availability for an individual assessment.
