Combining HKDSE and OSSD: An Illustrative Weekly Study Plan

Combining HKDSE and an online OSSD course requires a realistic plan for schoolwork, tuition, activities and rest. The example below shows how a student might reserve study time for one additional OSSD course. It is an illustrative planning template, not a real student’s timetable or a minimum weekly workload approved by the school.

What this example assumes

The student remains in full-time secondary school and takes one OSSD course alongside it. Actual study time depends on the subject, assignment demands, English proficiency and planned completion date. Confirm the required workload with your teacher before enrolling.

Six hours is not a promise of sufficient study time. Live lessons, assessments, revisions and busy weeks may require additional time. Do not use this table to calculate a guaranteed course completion date.

Where do the included Zoom lessons fit?

Each Sauder Academy course costs CAD $3,000 and includes five hours of one-to-one live Zoom lessons in total. Agree lesson times with the school and add them to your calendar; do not interpret the five hours as a weekly allocation or the complete course workload.

What happens during HKDSE tests and examinations?

Review both sets of deadlines at the start of each week, divide larger tasks into stages and contact teachers early if you anticipate a clash. Online learning does not mean that deadlines can automatically be postponed.

Signs that your plan needs adjustment

  • You regularly sacrifice sleep to finish work.
  • Assignments from either school keep accumulating.
  • You cannot make time to understand feedback and revise.
  • Your workload is affecting daily wellbeing.

Discuss changing the start date, course count or completion plan with the school. Protect regular rest and avoid filling every available hour.

Does one course mean a dual diploma?

No. An individual OSSD credit is different from the complete diploma. A dual-diploma plan requires an assessment of previous studies and completion of all applicable graduation requirements. Check each target university’s application rules separately.
